Keeping Infrastructure for Growth

We need major infrastructure investment to support the Borough’s growth

  • Our school place planning has improved dramatically and we will continue to monitor the need for new schools. We will support the opening of more free schools by facilitating the best providers to come to Kingston. We will also support the development of a new special needs school and a children’s home
  • We will build two new care homes and integrate continuing care homes into new planning policy
  • We will develop a new adult education centre
  • We will work with our Local NHS partners to provide more health facilities by negotiation with developers or through direct investment
  • We will support Crossrail 2 and other schemes that increase rail capacity
  • We will increase the capacity of both the Tolworth and Hook roundabouts and open up access to the A3 from Hook
  • A243 (Chessington and Hook) — We will continue to lobby the DfT to secure the Malden Rushett bypass with a new junction to the A3 behind Chessington World of Adventures and reducing the Hook Road to a single road.
  • New Malden High Street — Working with residents and businesses we will design a new scheme for New Malden High Street that builds on the history of the past and prepares New Malden for the future.
  • Kingston Marketplace — The marketplace refurbishment carried out by the Lib Dems in 2013 is already looking a mess and the entire project was never completed. We want to maintain the diversity of traders in our market but we have not given them high enough quality stalls to trade from. We will help them and replace the market stalls with those that allow for the total clearance of the area for public events and implement Stage 2 of the scheme for the closure and pedestrianisation of the High Street from the Clattern Bridge.
  • Surbiton — We need to develop a spatial plan for Surbiton that does not just concentrate on one element of Surbiton town centre but looks at all the moving parts. We need to consider what can be done to ambitiously enhance Victoria Road and make it safer for pedestrians. This will be a community led project.
